Meet the team

Director of Volleyball - Ryan Stoness

 

The Kingston Volleyball Academy is pleased to announce Coach (Ryan) Stoness as our Director of Volleyball. 

Coach Stoness brings over 30 years experience as a volleyball athlete  and 20 years experience in coaching and building the sport of volleyball in the Kingston Area.  Coach Stoness is a trained Advanced Development Coach and is currently working toward Performance Coach certifications. He holds a Master of Education and degrees in Physical and Health Education and Education which guide his coaching philosophy and strategy. As a builder, Coach Stoness has led the growth of  the RYATT Volleyball organization in the Kingston Community for the past 20 years, and has coached both boys and girls at the elementary, high-school and OCAA level.


Coach Stoness is currently the Head Coach of the newly launched St. Lawrence Surge Women's Volleyball program https://slcsurge.com/sports/wvball/index and most recently lead the Loyalist Lancers Women’s Volleyball Program from 2019-2024 culminating in the programs first ever OCCA medal.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hycikZ9smew


When asked about his coaching philosophy, 
"My coaching philosophy is rooted in development and growth – focuses on creating positive experiences, fostering strong relationships, and prioritizing holistic athlete development. I emphasize a “team over me” mentality and encourage athletes to adopt a growth mindset. My approach to program, team, and player development is strategic, structured, and well-communicated, ensuring that both individual athletes and the program thrive". 

When asked about his new role as the Director of Volleyball at the Kingston Volleyball Academy.  
"I am excited about the opportunity to work with our outstanding coaches and support them in  leading and growing  a new organization with a mission to create outstanding volleyball opportunities for youth in Kingston to play, grow, develop and love the sport of volleyball!

Our programs focus on volleyball skill development, teamwork, and confidence building while keeping the fun and energy of the sport at the center of every session. Whether your child is a beginner or an experienced player, KVBA offers opportunities to train, play, and improve.

Founded in 2025, our goals at the Kingston Volleyball Academy ensures that every young athlete has the opportunity to participate, develop their skills, and build lasting friendships, both on and off the court.
